Rachel Bocock, a member of Burma Watch International, is quoted in an article "Burma cited for breaching human rights" by staff writer Bob Gilmour that appeared in the June 27 2001 issue of the Edmonton Journal.
She is quoted as saying "Canadians must pressure their government to take firm political and economic action against the military dictatorship of Burma, which has institutionalized torture in that country." She is also quoted as saying that "it's shocking the number of Canadian companies doing business in Burma" and that "Human rights groups have told them what is happening. And they simply refuse to leave. So more pressure needs to be made by consumers. We need to take our money out of these countries."
